Tonight is one of my favorite nights of the year. Costumes, giggles, and the kind of joyful chaos that only happens when children sprint from porch to porch. If your house is anything like mine, there will be a shoe missing, a superhero cape in the kitchen, and a pumpkin bucket that mysteriously full of empty wrappers. It is all part of the magic. Let us lean into it and enjoy the moments.
Tonight is a good night to snap a few photos, then put the phone away so you can hold the flashlight, remind everyone to look both ways, and hear every joke and story. Let the kids walk with their friends for a block. Trade candy at the dining room table. Tell them your favorite childhood Halloween moment. The small rituals become the big memories.
I rarely recommend candy at breakfast. Most day-after-Halloween days are school day, so on those mornings I strongly advise against it. Sleep and protein win every time. Tonight and tomorrow are different… it’s the weekend! Give yourself the gift of choosing connection and calm in the morning that follows a night of fun.
Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday, November 2. We set clocks back one hour. Mornings will feel brighter. Evenings will arrive sooner. With a little planning you can help your child and yourself ease into the change. Keep your calming bedtime routine steady. Bath, book, bed. Open the shades for bright morning light on Sunday and Monday and, if you can, step outside for a few minutes. Plan active play in the afternoon and serve dinner a bit earlier for a few days. Cut screens an hour before bed. Choose quiet reading or drawing instead. Be patient with moods. Everyone is recalibrating. Early tuck ins are allowed.
There is nothing better than fall at Tatnall. The crunch of leaves under little feet. The glow of our campus in the afternoon sun. The way our community shows up for one another, in costumes and in everyday life. Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being the kind of families who make school feel like home.
I hope tonight is full of laughter and a few peanut butter cups. Tomorrow can start with coffee for the grown ups and, yes, maybe candy for breakfast for the kids. We have got this, together.
